You can use any external hard disk or pen drive and use it as a Time Machine drive. Time Machine is a dedicated native feature that lets us take an automatic backup of Mac. Although it would take more time, but it will let you selectively save the data of your choice. Now, manually copy data from Mac's internal drive and paste it to the external drive.
